Atletico Mineiro vs Corinthians Prediction: After extending their winning streak to five games with a draw in last week's derby, Atletico Mineiro are aiming for a belated success when Corinthians visit Mineirao on Saturday.

Atletico were last beaten by local rivals América Mineiro in the Campeonato Brasileiro, just days before their Cup defeat by Sao Paulo-based América.

A late two-goal lead in last week's Minas Gerais derby saw Atlético Mineiro snatch victory; Two goals conceded in the second half – following earlier goals from Matias Zaracho and veteran striker Hulk – satisfied them in a 2-2 draw with old opponents USA.

To add insult to injury, the Hulk was sent off at half-time and coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was subsequently reprimanded for his post-match protests.

All continued the former Brazil coach's slow start at Atlético: his new side have not won since joining Scolari in the middle of last month.

A recent 1-1 draw with Paraguay's Libertad secured Galo at least a place in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores, something the Belo Horizonte side have achieved eight times in the last decade. However, the crisis has seen them drop to 10th in the Serie A table and adding two home wins against Brasileiro to their tally this year will be the biggest concern for Scolari and company this weekend.

Barely a month after the second leg and another penalty shoot-out success, Corinthians again face the side they have defeated in their last 16 Copa do Brasil games.

Alvinegro's last trip to Mineirao could have ended in a 2-0 defeat, but Alvinegro bounced back from a home defeat and secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Cup by beating Atlético. This week, however, Vanderlei Luxemburgo's side suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, while the ailing American Serie A club beat them 1-0 on Wednesday.After two months in power, Luxemburgo has won just four of his 17 games.

Ahead of the second leg in Sao Paulo, Corinthians must once again focus on strengthening their low position in the Brasileiro - they're 16th in the table and just a point above the relegation zone - and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana.

After a fifth loss in their last eight games, they are yet to recover from a loss this year – including last week's league loss to Bragantino – and so cannot afford a slow start on Saturday.
